  • WHAT'S NEW IN NJSHAD
  • IN THE SPOTLIGHT
  • INFANT AND FETAL DEATH 101
    • An infant death is a death of a live-born infant within the first year of life.
    • A fetal death is what is commonly called a stillbirth.
    • There are more fetal deaths than infant deaths each year in NJ.
    • Only fetal deaths from the last half of pregnancy (20+ weeks gestation) are reported by NJDOH.
    • Induced terminations of pregnancy (abortions) are not included in the fetal death count.
    • While the infant mortality rate has been steadily declining, the fetal mortality rate has not and appears to have leveled off.
    • Go to Infant and Fetal Death Indicator Reports and Data Query
